SKM Swiss Karting Championship

17 April / Franciacorta (IT)

Race 1

The first race of SKM 2022 took place at the Franciacorta Kartodromo in Lombardy (IT). The weather was fabulous all weekend and the field of 30 riders was quite large.

Besides the Swiss racers, there were also Italians and Estonians who wanted to prepare for the upcoming ROK race, one week later in Franciacorta.

In qualifying I finished P20, which meant for me that I had to start in the closely contested midfield. But the race went well and I was able to finish P18 in the first race, P17 in the second race and P12 in the final.

It was an exciting weekend, which showed us our strengths and weaknesses. We will now take this experience with us as we prepare for the next race in Mirecourt on 22 May.

22 May / Mirecourt (F

Race 2

On the weekend of 22 May, the second round of the SKM was held in Mirecourt, France.
20 Supermini riders had registered for this event. The practice sessions on Friday and Saturday were promising and hopes were high for a top place.
Sunday brought sunshine and perfect weather for exciting racing. Free practice was scheduled for 8:00 a.m. and everything went according to plan.

In qualifying, one hour later, I secured 9th place.

Unfortunately, the start of the first race was very disappointing. When the lights went green at the rolling start, there was suddenly no engine power and I dropped back to 16th place.
During the 9-lap race, I managed to gain positions again and crossed the finish line as 10th.

During the break to the 2nd race we tried to optimise the carburettor setting to get a better start this time. However, on the formation lap the engine didn't run at all and I had to line up last behind the field to start the race.
After a few laps, however, I abandoned the race. It turned out that the choke on the carburettor had been pulled for reasons we couldn't explain.

In the final I started from P16 (calculated position from 1st and 2nd heat). There was nothing to lose and I was quite relaxed at the start. Again, the engine failed to pick up the throttle and I dropped back to P19. In the race I made up places and finished at P12.

Unfortunately, the possibility to finish further ahead was once again made impossible by technical circumstances. But as they say: "After the race is before the race". So we are now focusing on the 3rd round of the SKM, where we are confident that we finally will achieve a well-deserved top place.

3 July 2022 / 7-Laghi

Race 3

It was a hot race weekend in Castelletto di Branduzzo in Italy, on the 1256 meter long 7-Laghi circuit.

With temperatures up to 38 °C, all participants were challenged, but especially the drivers.

This time we were able to continue the good results from the practice days on Friday and Saturday in the races on Sunday.

In the 6-minute long qualifying I finished in 9th place. In the following 2 race heats I finished in 8th and 7th place, which secured me 6th place on the grid for the final race.

This was a great result for me in a field of 21 drivers. The start to the final, which was scheduled for 11 laps, did not go as expected. The start and finish straight ends in a fast and normally almost full throttle right turn. There I was pushed so hard by a competitor who was driving behind me that I collided with two other drivers and skidded off the track. A kart lifted off the ground and hit my elbow and my steering wheel so hard that it was no longer possible to resume the race.

The disappointment was huge, but that's racing. Success and defeat are often very close together.

August 21, 2022 / Levier

Race 4

It was the start of the 4th round of the Swiss Kart Championship, when on Sunday, August 21, the red starting lights went out on the Circuit de l'enclose near Levier.

The training on Friday and Saturday was dominated by the changing weather. Sun and rain fought on these days as hard as the opponents on the race track.

On race Sunday, fortunately, the sun prevailed and allowed exciting and fair races in sunny weather.

In the qualifying, at 9:00 in the morning, I could unfortunately not show a good lap time and ended up on a disappointing 17th place.

The 1st race run then ran a lot better and I secured me at the finish after 9 race laps the 11th place.

In the 2nd race run I improved then another time to the 8th place.

During the final I lost in the last round, by a self-inflicted driving error, 2 hard fought places and crossed the finish line again as 8th.

On October 8th, the last race of this season will take place in Wohlen (CH).

October 8, 2022 / Wohlen

FINAL

Saturday, October 8 at kart track in Wohlen 7:00 the bustle begins. The tents under which the racing teams are working are already illuminated and the covers of the karts removed. Compressors and impact wrenches are rattling, new chains and sprockets are mounted and the last settings are checked or adjusted.

It is the start of the 5th and last race of SKM 2022.

Today, interest is focused more than usual on the weather forecast. This has changed constantly in the last hours and can not decide whether it will rain or not. In the end, the report was 100% wrong. Because there was no rain in the morning, but it rained more and more in the afternoon, which was predicted to be dry.

The warm-up laps at 8:00 went better than expected and I achieved the 6th fastest lap time in a field of 22 drivers.
In qualifying I only managed 10th on the grid.

At the start of the first race I lost 6 places on the outside of the track, but I managed to get 5 of them back and finished in 11th place.

After the lunch break we continued with rain tires and a wet track. The start went a bit better this time, but I lost places again in the first 4 laps, so that I suddenly found myself in 16th place. After lap 4 I finally found the rhythm and the feeling for the track conditions and finished 10th.

The starting place for the final race is always determined by the points achieved in the first 2 races. For me this meant starting position 8.
Another time I had to start from the outside and lost valuable places right after the start of the race. In the end, after an exciting race lasting 14 laps, I finished in 7th place, which is the best result of the whole season.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all the support I have received.
It was a great pleasure for me to receive visits from sponsors, friends and others in the paddock. MANY THANKS!
